British investigative researcher Prash Ganendran is the author of the best-selling Murder Casebook series and Jack the Ripper: Straight for the Jugular. With his wife Melissa Ganendran, he co-authored Wartime London’s “Bonnie and Clyde”: The Crime Spree of Betty Jones and Karl Hulten. He is also the creator of Prash’s Murder Map, a podcast exploring solved and unsolved true crime cases worldwide.

Prash specialises in historical true crime and is known for his meticulous and objective research, often uncovering new details buried in archives and official records. His work combines detailed, vivid storytelling with a balanced focus on both victim and killer, offering fresh perspective on some of history’s darkest moments.

He has written about crimes spanning multiple eras, from Victorian murders such as the dismemberment of Harriet Lane by Henry Wainright, to wartime cases including “Blackout Ripper” Gordon Cummins. Prash’s research also covers early 20th-century British cases like poisoner Charlotte Bryant and notorious doctor Hawley Harvey Crippen, along with international cases such as the Zodiac, Australian mass murderer Martin Bryant, and the 1914 Sarajevo assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip which triggered The First World War.

Wartime London’s “Bonnie and Clyde”

In Wartime London’s “Bonnie and Clyde”: The Crime Spree of Betty Jones and Karl Hulten, true crime author Prash Ganendran and co-author Melissa Ganendran uncover the extraordinary story of Karl Hulten, an AWOL American G.I., and Elizabeth Jones, a Welsh dancer who ran away to London at sixteen. In 1944, the pair embarked on a six-day spree of theft and violence that ended with the brutal murder of taxi driver George Heath. The case shocked wartime Britain and became known as the Cleft Chin Murder.

Based on extensive archival research, the book reveals new and previously unpublished details about Hulten and Jones’s troubled backgrounds, their wartime crimes, the sensational Old Bailey trial, and for the first time, the truth about Betty’s life after her dramatic reprieve from the gallows, tracing her story through to her death decades later.

Career & Creative Work

Before becoming a full-time author, Prash worked as a fraud analyst and later as a Cisco Network Engineer, a role that took him inside some of the UK’s highest-security prisons, including the one housing ‘Suffolk Strangler’ Steve Wright. In 2020, he left IT to focus entirely on writing, research, and podcasting.

Prash has also created an immersive seven-part Jack the Ripper podcast series which brought together the voice talents of more than 40 contributors, including retired Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley, Ripperologists Karl Coppack and Philip Hutchinson, and Morbidology host and true crime author Emily G. Thompson.

Alongside his true crime work, Prash also co-authored the Victorian mystery novel The Porcelain Cat: A Detective Amarnath Mystery with Melissa, and together they launched the Curious Britain podcast in 2025, celebrating the history and mysteries of the UK.

Inspirations & Interests

Inspired since childhood by detective fiction, film noir, and radio dramas, Prash brings the same sense of intrigue and atmosphere into his true crime reporting. When not researching the darker side of human nature, he enjoys visiting historic sites, photography and birdwatching.
